County-Wide Bicycle Advisory Committee Endorses Rail with Trail
Friends of the Rail & Trail today applauded the Bicycle Advisory Committee of the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (SCCRTC) for voting at their October 8 public meeting to adopt a position in support of the Rail with Trail – Scenario B, one of four scenarios in the recently released Unified Corridor Investment Study.
“We agree the Rail with Trail – Scenario B is the clear winner because it performs exceptionally well with respect to safety, the environment, cycling mode share, public transit mode share, social equity and benefits to the local economy when compared to the other scenarios.” said Mark Mesiti-Miller, chair of Friends of the Rail & Trail. “Scenario B also integrates perfectly with the recently adopted 2018 State Rail Plan, which will create a world-class rail network allowing car-free travel throughout California by 2040.”
The Bicycle Advisory Committee includes representatives from each of the four cities in Santa Cruz County and each of the five supervisorial districts, as well as Bike to Work and The Community Traffic Safety Coalition. The committee advises the SCCRTC on bicycle-related issues such as mobility and safety, public policies, and specific projects.
