Bruce
McPherson - California State Senator,
15th District
From a letter to the RTC “The
potential for establishing a viable
recreational rail project in Santa
Cruz County is an exciting one
for me.” McPherson also pointed
out his support for Senate Bill
465, which supports the establishment
of a rail project in the rail right
of way.
John Laird - California
Assembly Member, 27th District
“In tight fiscal times
like these, the Commission has
the chance to maximize dollars
from outside the county by utilizing
funds from Proposition 116. Please
take advantage of this opportunity.”
Sam Farr - US Representative,
District 17
“I believe that this region
cannot afford to miss this unique
opportunity to purchase this
intact railroad right-of-way.”
Community Traffic Safety
Coalition
The County’s own Community
Traffic Safety Coalition (CTSC),
which includes the Highway Patrol
and the Santa Cruz Police Department,
among others, wrote “The
CTSC supports the Regional Transportation
Commission’s plans to establish
a recreational rail service between
Capitola and Aptos/Seascape and
build a bicycle and pedestrian
path adjacent to the rail line.
The recreational trolley has
the potential to lessen traffic
congestion, making roads safer
for pedestrians and cyclists.”
